This is to acknowledge your kind contribution to our son Michael’s scholarship fund. Your contributions honor the memory of my son, a true American hero, for which I am forever grateful. With your assistance, we honor Michael’s supreme sacrifice to the causes of freedom that make these scholarships possible. As you may have read, Michael was awarded the Medal of Honor on October 22, 2007 for risking his life to save his fellow US Navy SEALs in the Kunar Province, Afghanistan.

I wanted to thank you for remembering Michael’s foundation, and any amount you donate goes to a good cause. I am pleased to inform you that on May 10, 2006, Michael’s scholarship foundation was granted public charities designation by the IRS so that all contributions are tax deductible. All contributions are used for charitable purposes, and there are no administrative or fundraising expenses used from donated funds.

I am also pleased to inform you that in 2006, the Navy SEAL Lt. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation awarded two scholarships to two deserving students from Michael’s own high school, Patchogue-Medford High School. Conrad Minardi and Shannon Purce had to have a C or better average, and be involved with any intramural sport or Patchogue-Medford activity. There were also two other scholarships awarded in 2006, one scholarship awarded with matching funds through the Suffolk Federal Credit Union, and one awarded with matching funds through the Purple Heart Organization in Washington, D.C. to a veteran wounded in Iraq (Dean Sanchez from Denver, CO)who is going to attend law school in Colorado. In 2007, four similar scholarships were awarded with two going to Anita Moreno and William Roulette from Patchogue-Medford High School, and the Purple Heart Scholarship going to Ricardo Prado of Texas, an Army Ranger wounded in Afghanistan.

Your support of the Navy SEAL Lt. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation is both a blessing and instrumental in providing these funds to these individuals. I appreciate all you have done and am grateful for your support.

Sincerely,

Daniel J. Murphy & Maureen T. Murphy
